Yesterday afternoon, the Telegraph released a story citing anonymous sources describing how Hezbollah uses the Beirut Airport to smuggle in weapons while tensions have been at an all-time high between Israel and Iranian-backed militia (article here).
The article has sparked outrage on social media, with one known former Telegraph employee distancing themselves from the piece.
While the story itself seems plausible to me, there is legitimacy to the critique that the Telegraph is publishing a whistleblower story, citing anonymous sources, without abiding by journalistic standard practices—namely adding an article byline, which at least cites the journalist who wrote the piece. Fully anonymous allegations in a time where any escalation could lead to a full-blown war are highly irresponsible, especially if one wants to be considered a legitimate medium.
The Lebanese air transport association has denied these claims (article here). It is unclear if the author of the original article will step forward.
